Benefits of working for Electoral Commission

Flexible Working
We put flexible working at the heart of our organisation. We are committed to providing equal opportunities and have developed policies that support our staff’s work-life balance. Staff at all levels, across the Commission benefit from our flexible working scheme. For example, compressing their hours, job sharing, working from home permanently, or hybrid working. We also offer flexi-time. This allows our people to have some variety in working hours. Staff can take a maximum of three flexi leave days every month. They can also accrue this and take it as leave. We offer a hybrid working pattern of 2 days (or 40%) in the office and 3 days (or 60%) from home.

Annual Leave
A minimum of 28 days of paid annual leave, plus 8 bank holidays, increasing up to a maximum of 30 days after 4 years. We also have a benefit of ‘selling’ up to 5 days of leave per year for additional salary.

Pension Expectation
Permanent and fixed term contract (FTC) employees are given the opportunity to enrol into the Alpha Civil Service pension scheme with an employer contribution of 28.97%. We are an independent body, meaning that our staff are not civil servants. However, if you’re joining from the Civil Service, you will be able to remain in the Civil Service pension scheme and transfer with a continuous pensionable service record.

Working Hours
36hrs per week.
Any Travel expectation for the candidates and if so, are expenses covered?
No travel expectations, however if required, expenses will be covered by the Commission.

Other Benefits
From day one, our people benefit from Benenden Health membership. This membership meets the needs of people who are looking for access to healthcare services such as medical diagnostics, medical treatment and surgery, physiotherapy, 24/7 GP access, and mental health helplines.

Learning and Development Opportunities
We support our people to continue learning and developing their skills. You will have access to regular learning sessions. They cover a range of topics from learning new skills, to looking after your well-being, and learning about the work of teams across the Commission. We support our people to access continuing professional development (CPD) courses. We also offer leadership and development training.

Employee Assistance Programme
Our people benefit from access to our Employee Assistance Programme. This includes up to eight sessions of face to face, telephone or online counselling, legal information services, debt and financial information, access to an online health and well-being portal, and more.

Staff Volunteering
All our staff are entitled to 5 volunteer days (paid) per year. We understand how important it is to give back to the community and encourage our employees to embrace this benefit.
